Kate Middleton donated her hair to cancer charity - 'Heartwarming thing for her to do'

Kate Middleton once kindly donated her hair to support a child cancer charity, Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young patients fighting the disease.

The Princess of Wales has recently revealed she is undergoing treatment for cancer, years after her charitable act, which took place in 2017. Kate Middleton underwent planned abdominal surgery earlier this year and later revealed cancer was found after the procedure was done. She’s now undergoing preventative treatment, as she takes a step back from royal duties.

Kate Middleton ‘secretly’ donated hair to cancer charity

In 2017, Kate was getting her hair cut in Kensington Palace by her hairdresser, Joey Wheeler, who cut seven inches from her long brown locks.

“Four months ago Joey persuaded her it was time to take off some of her hair; he said it was just getting too long,” a royal source told the Sunday Express in 2018. “While Joey was snipping away the idea came to her of doing some good with it rather than throwing it away.”

She then mentioned the idea to her hairdresser, who thought it was a brilliant idea, however, the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source at the time. Instead, they thought it was from a female in the Kensington area.

“It’s lovely to think somewhere a little girl is happily wearing a wig made from a real princess’s hair. It’s a very heartwarming thing for Kate to have done, and very thoughtful to use hair that would have otherwise just been thrown away,” the source concluded.

Upon hearing that the hair had been donated by the Princess herself, the Trust said it was a “great surprise”.

Helen Creese, spokesperson for the charity said: “Obviously we’re all absolutely delighted that she donated her hair, and we’re very grateful as well, just as we’re grateful to everyone who chooses to support the charity in this way, and so many people do.”

King Charles also revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, which followed a visit to the UK from his youngest son, Prince Harry.

In January, the father and daughter-in-law both found themselves in the same hospital, and a royal source says their health struggles have brought them closer together.

“It’s very clear that he’s extremely concerned about her. I think he wants to make sure as much as he can that if there’s anything he can do, he will do, Robert Hardman author of Charles III: New King, New Court, tells HELLO! “Because for a very fit and healthy young mother, this is a different order of magnitude to someone having to deal with this in their 70s.”

The author then goes on to say that the two have been a ‘source of comfort for each other’. “I think it cannot but have brought them even closer together. He’s always had a huge regard for his daughter-in-law. He thinks she’s just wonderful.”
