PlumHall set to perform at London Road Congregational Church, Newark

An internationally recognised singer-songwriter duo, including a former member of Chumbawamba, are heading to town.

Critically-acclaimed songwriters husband and wife duo Michelle Plum and Nick Hall, together form PlumHall and are renowned for their exquisite vocal harmonies and excellent musicianship.

The duo use a mesmerising combination of acoustic and electric instruments to create breathtaking soundscapes to their powerful original songs — and they will perform them live at London Road Congregational Church, Newark, on April 13.

PlumHall is set to perform at London Road Congregational Church, Newark.

Richard Gascoyne said the church is very excited to have them coming to town and especially to be playing at London Road Congregational Church.

The gig will start at 7.30 with doors at 6.30. Tickets are £10 each from the church, on 07507560614, and with just seventy places available early booking is advised.

Michelle Plum was formerly a member of Chumbawamba, replacing Lou Watts for four years, and was a touring session musician with The Chris Norman Band for four years, while Nick Hall has been a touring member of Ian Prowse and Amsterdam, Magna Carta, and The Hall Brothers.

Their two studio albums, Thundercloud and The Ghost of Noise, have earned the duo many plaudits including a Hidden Gem award from The Guardian.

From the alt-country sound of the debut to the electronica and found sounds of the follow up, the band have proved that they can fuse classic songwriting with genre-hopping studio experimentation. Their third album is currently in production and promises to be their strongest yet.

The duo have also just supported legendary folk rock band Fairport Convention on their winter tour — and are now heading out on their own countrywide tour.

PlumHall's live prowess has seen the duo invited to sing onstage with Al Stewart, including unforgettable appearances at London’s Palladium and Cadogan Hall.

They have also performed alongside Larry Campbell, Phil Beer and more, and are now evolving as a three-piece with their producer David Crickmore on bass, vocals and electronica.

Last year London Road Congregational Church was host to another husband and wife duo, Winter Wilson, and the church is confident it can build on its success.

Whilst there will be no alcoholic drinks on sale, the audience is welcome to bring their own refreshment. Tea, coffee, juice and cakes will be on sale during the interval.
