'Easy change': Phil Hay says Daniel Farke could hand Leeds man only his second league start on Tuesday

Leeds United will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday when we host Sunderland at Elland Road following our defeat to Coventry City – and Daniel Farke may well make some changes to his side.

Saturday afternoon was a disappointing result for Leeds, even if the Whites ended the game strong after Joel Piroe got one back – eventually losing 2-1 to Mark Robins’ in-form Coventry. They are in fine form.

It promised to be a difficult game against The FA Cup semi-finalists and so it turned out to be, even if Robins praised Leeds’ squad strength and Conor Roberts. A handful of Leeds players looked tired.

Glen Kamara was one of those on Saturday. Given his workload over the last few weeks, in the middle of the park, it was understandable. Daniel Farke says he has been suffering with illness, but is still playing.

Leeds star Glen Kamara far from his best against Coventry City

On Saturday,he hooked Kamara at half-time and hinted that his energy levels were not at their best given the illness. But with just 72 hours until the next game against Sunderland, changes may be afoot for us.

Speaking on The Square Ball, Phil Hay says Kamara could be rested in order to give him a break. He says it would be an “easy change” to make to bring Connor Roberts into the line-up, moving Archie Gray inside.

“With Roberts, you not only benefit from him being a really good right-back, but character and attitude is what you need more of. The potential of him and Gray in midfield seems like an easy change to make.”

What other changes could Daniel Farke make tomorrow night?

It would only be Roberts’ second league start of the season, but it is about time he is given a starting spot in the League – his only other outing coming in the 1-0 win over Stoke. He deserves a go from the off.

Well, Patrick Bamford struggled against Coventry. There is the temptation to bring in up-and-coming Mateo Joseph, who looks exciting and on an upward curve. But then, Piroe scored for Leeds on Saturday.

That may do his confidence a bit of good. Willy Gnonto was back on the bench and he was only out of the line-up due to a knock after the international break. Otherwise, we are likely to be exactly the same.

It is crucial Leeds exact revenge and get three points. After the weekend, Leicester sit top with a game in hand. The midweek fixtures could prove crucial come the end of the season. Leeds simply have to win.
