‘Absolutely world-class’: Jamie Carragher left amazed by one Man United player yesterday

Jamie Carragher was left amazed by one Manchester United player after yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

It’s fair to say that Manchester United rode their luck at Old Trafford on Sunday as Liverpool proved to be wasteful in front of goal.

Following a difficult opening 45 minutes, Erik ten Hag’s men were fortunate to find themselves just 1-0 down following Luis Diaz’s opener.

But to United’s credit, they improved dramatically in the second half and produced two stunning goals to earn a point.

Bruno Fernandes got the Red Devils back on level terms as he caught Caoimhin Kelleher off his line from just a few yards inside the Liverpool half.

The Portuguese star struggled in the first half and received criticism from Gary Neville, alongside Casemiro.

Yet, his stunning strike followed by Kobbie Mainoo’s first Old Trafford goal earned United a 2-2 draw on the day. And Jamie Carragher has lauded Fernandes following his second-half effort.

Carragher labels Fernandes goal ‘world-class’

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher reflected on Jarell Quansah giving the ball away to Fernandes right before the goal.

“Even though he’s made a mistake, it’s a mistake but I think it’s more about the finish than the mistake,” Carragher said.

“Bruno Fernandes, we speak about him a lot but that was out of this world, wasn’t it? Absolutely world-class.”

Fernandes and Mainoo goals earn United unlikely point

On the balance of play yesterday, it’s fair to say that United were fortunate to share the spoils.

Liverpool created 3.92 xG in comparison to United’s 0.87, with Jurgen Klopp’s side proving to be wasteful in the final third.

As for Fernandes’ goal, the odds were certainly stacked against the 29-year-old finding the back of the net from that distance.

In fact, his effort was worth just 0.03xG and it took two special efforts from United to earn a result on the day.
