'He's a nuisance': Roy Keane admits he wouldn't enjoy facing 28-year-old Tottenham player

Roy Keane has suggested that he would not like to face one Tottenham Hotspur player, admitting that he seems to be a real nuisance to deal with.

Spurs got back to winning ways against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro scored in the second-half for Ange Postecoglou’s side as they moved themselves into the top-four in the Premier League.

It was not perfect from Tottenham who definitely rode their luck at times. Chris Wood should have actually put Forest ahead during the first-half.

But Spurs got the win. And once again, Timo Werner was able to have an impact on the game, with the German’s cross being turned into the Forest net by Murillo.

Werner has been a really shrewd signing for Tottenham following his loan move in January. And his ball in on Sunday became his fourth assist since arriving. Only four players in the Spurs squad have more across the entire season.

Speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 7/4; 20:14), Roy Keane noted that there are aspects of Werner’s game which underwhelm, but there is no doubt that he can cause real problems.

“He’s a nuisance to play against, isn’t he, Werner. There’s question marks about his end product and whatever, his final pass. But he does affect games, he is a threat,” he said.

“I think probably wide [is his best role]. I don’t think he enjoys it so much when his back’s to play, and his hold up play. But when he’s in these wide positions, he is effective.”

Spurs facing simple decision over whether to keep Timo Werner

It is hard to see Tottenham not taking up the option to sign Werner permanently this summer.

He has not necessarily stolen the show since his move to North London. But he deserves a lot of credit for how quickly he has found his feet in Postecoglou’s side.

He has been directly involved in six league goals since his arrival. And he is always a threat with his pace out on the wing.

If Tottenham had to spend a significant sum to sign him permanently, the debate would be much greater.

However, on current evidence, it seems to be a simple decision for those behind the scenes at Tottenham.
