Former Wimbledon midfielder Robbie Earle has now shared two reasons why Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal are currently engaged in an extraordinarily tight Premier League title race.
As things stand, the Gunners are sat at the top of the Premier League table, with 31 games played and 71 points on the board. However, Liverpool and Manchester City are on the the North London club’s heels.
The Reds are level on points with Arsenal, but trail them on goal difference. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions are currently lurking in third place, but are just one point off of the pace being set by Mikel Arteta’s men.
This title race is impossibly hard to call and will almost certainly go down to the wire. There is almost no margin for error, either. Whoever does come out on top at the end of the season will have to produce almost perfect form between now and then.
Jamie Carragher has set Arsenal a points target to become champions, but to achieve that aim the Gunners can scarcely afford to drop a point.
Why Arsenal will believe they can win the Premier League title
The Gunners do have reasons to be confident, though. Based on form, they are the most impressive team in the division. Arsenal have the most solid defence in the Premier League, and have also scored more goals this season than any other side in the top flight of English football.
Whether or not they can handle the pressure and intensity of the run-in remains to be seen. Emotions will be running high and the fixtures will be coming thick and fast. Arsenal will need to prove that they can hold their nerve and that they have the requisite strength in depth in their squad to cope with the pile-up of matches.
Against Brighton last time out, the Gunners produced an efficient and professional performance to earn a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium. The mood is currently clearly high in the Arsenal dressing room too, as there was a display of camaraderie on the pitch between Ben White and Martin Odegaard after the win over Brighton.
Robbie Earle shares two reasons why Arsenal can be champions
Robbie Earle certainly thinks that Arsenal should fancy their chances of winning the title this season, due to the strength of their defence and form of their attacking contingent.
Speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, he said, “right now, the best balanced team in the Premier League is Arsenal. The best attack in scoring goals, defensively they’ve got the best defensive record. Fourteen clean sheets. When you watch with your eyes what Arsenal do, the opposition get very few looks at goal. Gabriel and Saliba are the best centre-back partnership in the league.”
“Right now, if they had experience, if they had a couple of Premier League titles already, I think you’d be saying ‘Arsenal do it again.’ It’s because they haven’t done it in twenty years is the reason why you say maybe not.”
