'I was very hurt': Bruno Guimaraes now shares what really annoyed him at Newcastle recently

Newcastle United have been in good form of late.

While Eddie Howe’s side have not been particularly convincing, Newcastle have picked up two wins from three in the Premier League following the international break.

In fact, the win against Fulham started so badly that Howe even had to hold harsh words with his players at Craven Cottage.

Indeed, while the win over West Ham late last month was thrilling in so many ways, it was not exactly a vintage defensive performance.

Clearly, what matters most in the race for Europa League qualification is the results at this stage of the season.

Still, the inconsistent displays we’ve seen Newcastle put in have been frustrating for much of the campaign.

Take the Everton game that came between the wins over West Ham and Fulham. Newcastle really should have got over the line in that one but a Paul Dummett mistake saw them drop two points to a team towards the bottom of the table.

Though Newcastle have done well since the international break, there is little doubt that was a missed opportunity.

It’s something Bruno Guimaraes has noted upon.

The Brazilian has been a consistent figure for the club in this otherwise wild campaign.

He scored the winner against Fulham on what was his 100 appearances for the club and was duly praised by pundits for his overall performance.

When speaking about the win in west London to The Northen Echo, Guimares said: “I was very hurt about the last game [Everton], to lose the three points in the last seven minutes.

“But this was a big answer and what we’re looking for in the rest of the season is to play in Europe again.”

Newcastle have the race for Europe in their hands

Though West Ham currently lead Howe’s side by a point, they have played an extra game.

Newcastle have the race for seventh in their own hands but they will need to cut out some of the defensive lapses in order to get there.

If Newcastle can string together some kind of consistency, the Europa League awaits.
