Report: Eddie Howe and his Newcastle staff blown away by 'outstanding' youngster from the moment they saw him

Eddie Howe has done a remarkable job with some of the players he inherited at Newcastle United.

For all of the big money signings that have been made during the PIF era to date, Howe has transformed the careers of plenty of Newcastle players who were here before he arrived.

The likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton have risen to become leading forces in the Premier League, albeit the former has struggled to wholly convince this season.

Fabian Schar, meanwhile, has been another big standout – looking twice the player he was under Steve Bruce.

While supporters may get to see more signings arrive this summer, it will be fascinating to see what Howe does with a player who has seen his season disrupted by injuries.

Eddie Howe and his coaching staff were blown away by Elliot Anderson after first seeing him

Indeed, there was a lot of hype about young Elliot Anderson during pre-season, having played something of a bit-part role last time out.

The 21-year-old, however, missed 25 games of action with what was described as a complicated back injury.

Anderson has returned of late and has impressed Howe on the training pitch before the Newcastle manager praised elements of his performance during the win over Fulham, describing Anderson was “outstanding”.

More insight into how much Howe rates the player has emerged, too.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Howe and his coaching staff have been excited about the player since the minute they first laid eyes on him.

Elliot Anderson is set for a big role between now and the end of the season

It’s been a frustrating season for Anderson but he will now surely have the chance to end it strongly.

With Joe Willock injured in the win at Craven Cottage and the club reportedly considering sending him for surgery, Anderson looks primed and ready for a role in central midfield for the run-in.
