'Interesting': Sky Sports reporter thinks there's something missing from Everton's statement which will annoy Toffees fans

Everton have been deducted a further two points for their latest breach of PSR.

The Premier League have come down severely on the Toffees all season, and ever since this saga started in November they have continuously been dragged down by their own division.

Whether it be regarding financial matters or the takeover, they have done all they can to leave the club hamstrung and in the worst possible position to survive.

And this latest piece of knowledge is unlikely to ease fan frustration.

Sky Sports reporter makes statement Evertonians won’t like

Speaking live on Sky Sports News immediately following the news broke, reporter Anton Toloui would offer the following chunk of information which he knew Evertonians would not like.

However, it is vitally important when combing through the finer details, and realising exactly what the Premier League wanted to do with Everton.

Having lobbied for a 12-point deduction initially back in November, and now pushed for another big chunk this time around, the corruption claims are only set to intensify.

He noted: ’One thing that is interesting that wasn’t in the statement but will probably annoy Everton fans and maybe people within the Everton organisation themselves, is that going through that long, long report from the Premier League, it appears they wanted to impose a five-point deduction on Everton but they have taken into consideration lots of different factors and the fact Everton have admitted the breach and they have been cooperating.

‘They have been working with the Premier League to get to the bottom of this.

‘Obviously, there are different factors to do with Everton and finances, to do with the new stadium for example, and the financing around that and issues around ownership so I think there have been mitigating factors. But Everton feel that mitigation has not been taken into consideration enough.’

The Premier League are making it up as they go along

Whilst two points is not the worst outcome of this incident, it is still damaging in their attempts to stay in the division.

After all, it has seen them drop one place in the Premier League, and put them within just two points of the bottom three.

What’s most frustrating about his situation is the ever-changing and wildly inconsistent nature of the punishments.

They were first handed a ten-point deduction. That was later reduced to six. Now Nottingham Forest have also got six, reduced to four through ‘good behaviour’, and Everton once again have seen a further two points stolen.

It is farcical how unpredictable this metric is, and is only bound to spark further scrutiny.
