In highly unusual move, Chairman breaks rank and speaks out about farcical West Ham controversy

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has spoken out after the Wolves vs West Ham United clash in the Premier League at the weekend.

West Ham beat Wolves 2-1 in the Premier League in the end, after what really was a quintessential game of two halves.

Hammers boss David Moyes was delighted with the three points, after he made three game-changing substitutions during the match.

Michail Antonio, Ben Johnson and to be fair to him, Aaron Cresswell, all helped change the game in our favour.

The win was an absolutely vital one for us, and I think we deserved the victory after our second-half performance.

However, the Wolves players and their manager Gary O’Neill will understandably feel aggrieved after being denied a last minute equaliser by VAR.

Wolves Chairman responds to farcical West Ham controversy

In fairness, I would have been absolutely fuming had we scored that goal, only for VAR to rule it out.

Lukasz Fabianski would have got nowhere near the ball, even if the Wolves player hadn’t been in front of him. It was a poor decision as far as I’m concerned.

And now, Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has made it known just how furious he was with the VAR call.

In a rarely seen move, the Wolves supremo let his feelings be known on the VAR incident at Molineux two days ago.

In an open letter, Shi lambasted the Premier League and PGMOL after the decision to rule out Wolves’ late equaliser against the Hammers on Saturday, as quoted by the Mirror:

“When a goal is scored and not one person inside the stadium questions the validity of that goal, including both sets of players, coaches, fans and even the match officials themselves, it’s time to question whether someone remote disallowing that goal is really what football wants or needs. It is our sincere hope that the Premier League and PGMOL recognise the importance of addressing these concerns to uphold the integrity of the competition and demonstrate why the Premier League is regarded as the best in the world.”

I have to say, I totally agree with Jeff Shi here. Not one single person inside Molineux thought that that goal would be ruled out when it was scored.

And that leads me to think that VAR are simply there to rule out goals. In my opinion, it has already ruined the game.

Not the technology itself, but the inept officials who operate it. West Ham have been done over numerous times this season by VAR, and this time it was Wolves’ turn.

I do feel sorry for them though. It was a poor decision – one that never should have been made.
