It’s already clear who Ruben Amorim’s first signing should be if he becomes Liverpool’s manager

It’s obvious who Ruben Amorim should make his first signing at Liverpool if he becomes Jurgen Klopp’s heir.

Jurgen Klopp’s era is coming to a close at Anfield. For nine years, Klopp has delivered success beyond Liverpool supporters’ wildest expectations when he was first appointed.

During his time, the German won everything possible with Liverpool and well and truly turned the club from doubters to believers. Just like he said he would.

We are all still hoping that there is one more fairy tale ending left. Even after the disappointment of drawing at Old Trafford.

But now it’s not in Liverpool’s hands. It’s very much in the hands of the club’s title rivals, Arsenal.

What is in Liverpool’s hands is planning for the future. And finding the best possible replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

Why Ruben Amorim is the perfect fit for Liverpool

Ruben Amorim currently seems to be the favoured candidate at Liverpool. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager comes with a proven track record, and an impressive resume.

He has delivered Sporting CP’s first league title in 19 years and is on course to repeat that feat this season, after beating rivals Benfica at the weekend.

On top of that, Amorim plays with a similar high line to Jurgen Klopp and has similar principles in terms of his playing philosophy. That should ease Liverpool’s problems in terms of adjusting to life after Klopp.

Most importantly, Amorim also embraces youth and gives plenty of young players chances in the first team. At Sporting CP, he gave debuts to 25 players aged 21 or younger during his tenure so far.

Why Pedro Goncalves should be Ruben Amorim’s first Liverpool signing

While Klopp never brought players from his former club to Liverpool, Amorim might be different. There are players at Sporting who would very much thrive in England, and who could fit into Liverpool really well.

One of those is Pedro Goncalves. The 25-year-old has become one of Amorim’s most important players, and has a brilliant track record under the Portuguese manager.

Under Amorim, Goncalves made 126 goal contributions in 170 games. He has 30 goal contributions in 41 matches this season in total.

Technically gifted and clinical in front of goal, Goncalves is exactly what Liverpool lacked against Manchester United last weekend. The Reds desperately need a player who can finish chances off.

Which is why Goncalves would be an obvious first transfer for Amorim if he was appointed as the club’s new manager.
