'Shocked!' Hilarity ensues after Trump Media's tie to 'lingerie fighting' exposed

Former President Donald Trump's eponymous media company has been connected through an auditing firm with "a string of regulatory issues" to a league of lingerie fighters, spurring a hilarious uproar on social media Monday.

"I’m shocked, shocked I tell you," replied conservative attorney George Conway. "What will they tell us next — that his appellate bond might not be any goo—. …. Oh wait."

Conway here is referencing the film "Casablanca," the ongoing legal battle over the $175 million civil fraud bond challenged by New York Attorney General Letitia James, and a new Bloomberg News report about BF Borgers, the Colorado accounting firm that audits Trump Media's finances.

"A Canadian regulator said last year that BF Borgers violated its rules for auditors, while the US’s Public Company Accounting Oversight Board found multiple deficiencies in every audit it reviewed from the firm over the past two annual checks," Bloomberg reported Monday.

"Closely held companies often retain audit firms after going public through mergers with blank-check companies. But most of BF Borgers’s clients, such as Lingerie Fighting Championships Inc., a mixed martial arts league, are significantly smaller than Trump’s media business."

This news comes two weeks after Trump Media stock hit the public exchange and saw its price first skyrocket then go into free-fall as Securities Exchange Commission filings revealed the company had lost $58 million in 2023.

Monday's news of that Trump Media's auditor has a "string of regulatory issues" and odd clientele hit social media with a bang to rival the company's opening day on the exchange.

"A 100 percent deficiency rate and the Lingerie Fighting Championships," replied New York Times media reporter Bill Carter. "What could be more Trump?"

"'Lingerie Fighting Championships Inc.,' Darn," replied @CommonSense4444. "If I had an accounting firm I would rather quit and become a comedian if I had clients like that."

"I thought the 'string' of issues was a nice touch, coming from Lingerie Fighting," added X user Frantz Schoobert.

But Seamus McSpears had an edit: "Should have said g-string of regulatory issues."
