Cambridge’s new Wendy’s restaurant has been given permission to sell takeaway food until the early hours of the morning seven days a week.
The American fast food chain was granted planning permission to open a restaurant at 56 St Andrew’s Street, where the former NatWest Bank used to be based.
The original permission from Cambridge City Council allowed it to open between 8am and 10pm from Monday to Friday and on Sundays, and from 8am to 11pm on Saturday.
Wendy’s has now sought to extend its opening hours on a Friday until 11pm and to offer a takeaway service through a side window until 2am every day of the week.
A council report found no cause for concern, as long as the takeaway window was only used by delivery couriers and was not open to the public to use. Officers confirmed this could be a condition of the planning approval.
The report said the change would not “adversely impact” people nearby so the council granted approval.
