The decision was announced by Georgia’s State Register on April 8 following an appeal to Georgia’s Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Alt-Info registered as a party in 2021 with plans to participate in the 2024 parliamentary elections. There were several issues with the party’s application, including missing signatures, omitted supporter information, a charter that did not meet the legal requirements, and an invalid logo.

The party had recently filed an application with Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) to participate in October’s parliamentary election. The party said that more than 50,000 signatures were accepted for verification.

“They couldn’t find fault with anything, the CEC head was supposed to sign a ermit for our party to register for the elections today,” said one of the movement’s leaders, Zurab Maharadze, the Ukrainian National News (UNN) reported.

“At that moment we received information that the public register had canceled the party.”

The decision to exclude Alt-Info comes as governing Georgia Dream resubmits a bill on “foreign influence” that caused mass protests in the country in 2023.
