‘Vulnerable’: Andy Townsend says £30m Arsenal player is ‘flimsy and flaky’

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are having a truly wonderful season and could end up winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment and will fancy their chances of beating Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners are very good in all areas of the pitch. Arsenal are scoring goals for fun, have one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in Declan Rice, and have a brilliant centre-back partnership between William Saliba and Gabriel.

Arsenal have scored 75 goals and conceded 24 goals in 31 Premier League matches this season.

The North London club have scored more goals and conceded fewer than Liverpool and Manchester City. That says a lot.

It is hard to spot a weakness in the current Arsenal squad, but Andy Townsend has done just that.

The former Chelsea player and talkSPORT pundit has named the Arsenal player who is a weak link.

Townsend made the comments ahead of the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie between Arsenal and Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium in North London on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal defender branded ‘vulnerable’

The pundit has noted how Oleksandr Zinchenko can be a problem for Arsenal. The Ukraine international is able to play as a left-back or as a midfielder and cost the Gunners £30 million (BBC Sport) in transfer fees when they signed him from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

The 27-year-old has made 19 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal this season. He has scored one goal and given two assists in those games.

Townsend said about Zinchenko on talkSPORT (6:09 am, April 9, 2024): “The only area for Arsenal, Zinchenko is a great footballer, he is a little bit flimsy and flaky, and he can’t recover.

“When Kyle Walker, if he ever makes a mistake, he can recover. Zinchenko, if he gets caught, he is a bit vulnerable there, so they have got Tomiyasu now, they have got Kiwior who has stepped in and has done really well.”

Arsenal could win vs Bayern Munich

In my opinion, Arsenal could win against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal have a very good and strong team who are playing as a unit. The Gunners are a better and more mature team than last season.

While Bayern have some world-class players, such as Harry Kane, they have been hugely disappointing in the Bundesliga and are defensively not great.
