'Really, really good player': Eric Dier says he's a big fan of attacker Arsenal signed for £27m

Bayern Munich defender Eric Dier has now been complimenting an Arsenal player ahead of the side’s Champions League tie tonight.

Despite being surplus to requirements at Tottenham Hotspur this year, Eric Dier has been a regular starter for Bayern since moving in January.

Linking up with his close friend Harry Kane, the duo will be hoping to spoil Mikel Arteta’s excellent run in Europe tonight.

It seems as if both Dier and Kane will start tonight’s quarter-final, which is pretty remarkable when you consider that the defender was being left out of match day squads by Tottenham.

But either way, Arsenal will not be taking tonight’s tie lightly at all, even if Bayern aren’t at their strongest at the back.

Mikel Arteta does have a selection issue or two himself, but his dilemmas stem from the amount of availability he has, rather than those missing.

Of course, with Kai Havertz nailing down the false nine role, Arsenal’s biggest choice in an attacking sense will be at left wing, with Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard all competing for one position.

Eric Dier says Leandro Trossard has been an excellent signing for Arsenal

Ahead of tonight’s game, when speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville, Eric Dier was asked what he thought of Arsenal’s attack, and their use of a false nine now.

And when delivering his answer, Dier was particularly complimentary of Trossard’s ability, perhaps a player he’s hoping not to face.

Dier explained: “I know Bukayo [Saka] very well and Martinelli, and they’ve got great pace on the wings, Trossard has proved a really, really good player there as well.

“So that’s something we’ll have to pay a lot of attention to, I think it’s something I’ve experienced a lot here in the Bundesliga, teams trying to counter attack us, so we’ll have to keep our eyes out.”

Can you really leave Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli on the bench tonight?

Of course, from Trossard’s perspective, he will probably feel as if he can’t do much more to earn a start against Bayern tonight.

The £27m-winger scored Arsenal’s crucial goal against FC Porto in the second leg of last round, and has been that clutch player for Arteta more often than not.

But with that said, can you really leave both Jesus and Martinelli on the bench?

It’s an extremely tough call, and Eric Dier and his teammates must be preparing for several different Arsenal line ups.

All that being said, Serge Gnabry has made a claim about Arsenal’s fans before tonight’s meeting at the Emirates.
