£17m Manchester United striker target defeats Jadon Sancho as he smashes 24th goal of the season

Manchester United invested big money in Rasmus Hojlund last summer but are likely to be chasing another forward come this summer’s transfer window.

United needed to sign a striker and saw huge potential in Hojlund after just one season with Atalanta.

The Dane has been through ups and downs this season but clearly has a bright future ahead of him after 13 goals in all competitions this term.

The problem United have faced this season is that Hojlund is still fairly raw and asking him to lead the line on his own – with little to no competition – has piled too much pressure on him.

Anthony Martial has been a non-factor for much of the campaign and is likely to be leaving the club at the end of his contract this summer.

That leaves United searching for another striker to support Hojlund and share some of the workload in attack.

It’s unlikely that United will splash a huge fee on that signing less than a year since signing Hojlund, and maybe a more experienced option would be the ideal addition.

Manchester United target hits crucial goal

One name on the radar is Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy.

Reports in November suggested that United made contact to try and sign Guirassy ahead of the January window with a £17million release clause in his contract.

Fabrizio Romano reported in December that United had spoken to Guirassy but January passed without him moving anywhere.

That was great news for Stuttgart and he is making a huge impact in their push for Champions League qualification.

Stuttgart had to win a play-off to stay in the Bundesliga less than a year ago; now they sit third in the table, level on points with Bayern Munich.

Saturday saw Stuttgart face a major battle as they travelled to take on Borussia Dortmund away from home.

Guirassy came up with the big moment, firing a second-half strike into the top corner of the net, handing Stuttgart a 1-0 win.

That is now 24 goals in 22 Bundesliga games for Guirassy this season and the Guinean striker is in the form of his life – something United have surely paid attention to ahead of the summer transfer window.

Serhou Guirassy outshines Jadon Sancho

Guirassy’s goal not only boosts Stuttgart’s Champions League hopes, but also dents Borussia Dortmund’s.

Dortmund have slipped off from last season’s title push and may now miss out on a top-four finish.

Guirassy’s goal saw him overshadow United-owned winger Jadon Sancho, who played the full 90 minutes for Dortmund.

Ran suggested that Sancho is ‘finding it difficult to make breakthroughs offensively’ and added that Sancho ‘made the wrong decision several times’ in the final third.

Sport.de didn’t quite agree, suggesting that Sancho ‘showed perhaps his best performance’ for Dortmund since joining in January.

Ruhr24 felt that Sancho was one of Dortmund’s better players, highlighting that he covered more ground than any teammate.

There were mixed reviews on Sancho’s display and whilst United will be tracking his progress, Guirassy may have made himself the main focus for United.
