Fabrizio Romano says he needs to ‘clarify’ something about Ruben Amorim and Liverpool

Liverpool look set to continue discussions with Ruben Amorim over taking the manager’s job.

Amorim has looked like the outstanding candidate to take over from Jurgen Klopp ever since Xabi Alonso pulled out of the running.

And with the 39-year-old reportedly ‘determined’ to join the Reds, things appear to be heading in the right track. So much so that we’ve already taken a look at who his first signing at Liverpool could be.

Having beaten Benfica on Saturday night, Amorim now looks likely to lead Sporting to a second title in four years. With a cup final also already in the calendar, he could end the season as a double winner.

The hope will be that things could be tied up with Liverpool before that does or does not happen. Talks are claimed to have been accelerated on the back of Sporting’s win on Saturday, for example. However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has today just urged some slight caution to proceedings.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Ruben Amorim

As an undisputed expert when it comes to the transfer market, be it for players or managers, Romano’s words often carry significant weight.

So, it’s always a good idea to pay close attention to his Daily Briefing every morning. With Liverpool searching for Klopp’s replacement, there’s often plenty to say about the Reds.

Today is no different, with Romano aiming to ‘clarify’ claims that Amorim is at the ‘final stages’ of talks with Liverpool.

“I wanted to clarify the situation on Ruben Amorim again, as I’ve had many Liverpool fans asking me about the stories of an agreement being close for him to replace Jurgen Klopp on a three-year deal,” says the journalist.

“My understanding remains that we are not yet at the final stages of the story. It’s true that contacts are really concrete – talks have taken place and will keep taking place, but we have to be patient and wait for the moment Liverpool make their final choice. I respect other journalists, but this remains my information for the moment so I think we still have to wait a bit longer for a conclusion to this saga.”

Is anyone else still in the running

Up until the weekend, there were still said to be five candidates in play for Liverpool. The shortlist was very much still being whittled down.

Over the past few days, Amorim has really emerged as the man most likely to be at the top of that list.

However, that doesn’t mean that others aren’t still in and around the conversation. Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Julian Nagelsmann might be ‘one to watch,’ for example [Give Me Sport].

Thiago Motta is another who seems to be somewhat in the running, along with fellow Italian Simone Inzaghi. Still, although things may not be at the very advanced stages with Amorim, we haven’t seen reports suggesting that any of these other candidates are in talks at all. Let’s wait for further developments.
