What other Premier League managers are privately saying about Liverpool’s title challenge this season

Liverpool are going to have to respond yet again in the title race after Manchester City drew level on points with them today.

The Reds will have been hoping that Crystal Palace might have been able to help them out in a tricky looking away lunch time fixture for City today.

However, Pep Guardiola’s team did the business, swatting the Eagles away with a 4-2 win. The result keeps Liverpool on top of the Premier League for now, with Arsenal set to play this evening.

With an awkward trip to face Manchester United tomorrow for the Reds though, the pressure is back on Jurgen Klopp and his team.

Liverpool are favourites for Sunday’s game, however a visit to Old Trafford is rarely comfortable. It could be a pivotal moment in the season. And as things hot up, other Premier League managers have reportedly been discussing the three-way battle behind closed doors.

What has been said about Liverpool

At the start of the season, absolutely nobody would have had Liverpool down as favourites for the league title this year.

After failing so miserably in 2023/24, there was more a question of whether the Reds could return to playing Champions League football.

Instead, City would have been most people’s choice to win yet another crown. Arsenal meanwhile came relatively close last season and were expected to go again.

However, according to The Independent’s ‘Reading The Game’ newsletter yesterday, Premier League managers are perhaps not surprised to see Liverpool up there again.

It’s claimed that the tight race at the top of league has ignited discussion amongst the managers not involved at any of the three clubs.

And while City are still said to be privately held as favourites by these managers, Liverpool are seen as being the team with the highest ceiling. While the Reds matches are reportedly looked upon as having the potential for ‘chaos,’ it’s claimed that opposition coaches think Liverpool have it within them to reach ‘unplayable’ levels during matches.

Liverpool still with gears to go up

Although Liverpool’s two title rivals are perhaps slightly more cohesive units at this point, the Reds have got huge potential.

Having let go of his first great Reds team over the past two summers, Klopp has assembled another beast. It really is a shame that he won’t be here to oversee it’s development.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that players like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are only going to get better. Even Ryan Gravenberch is seen as being someone who can still reach the very top by Liverpool.

Losing Klopp for next season will of course be the biggest blow the Reds could have taken. But if anyone thinks this team can’t hit new levels under a different manager, then they’ve got a surprise coming.
