Liverpool will be getting a closer look at an exciting winger in pre-season this summer who has a £25m release clause.

The summer is not far away now. Already Liverpool will have been making plans. Not just in terms of the club’s transfer strategy – it’s difficult to do that anyway when the new manager hasn’t been appointed yet – but also logistically.

Liverpool will be playing pre-season friendlies once again this summer, and it will see the club return to the United States. This is after Liverpool went on a tour around Asia last summer.

This time around though Liverpool will be heading to the continent where the club’s owners, FSG, reside.

And the club has just announced who they will be playing first. According to Liverpool’s official website, Liverpool will take on Real Betis on Friday July 26th in Pittsburgh.

It’s a game that will pit them against Real Betis for the first time since 2005 – which is when Liverpool last took on the Spanish side in a competitive game – facing them in the group-stages of the Champions League.

It’s also a game where Liverpool will face an exciting young winger who the club’s recruitment team could get a closer look at.

Who is Assane Diao? And why is he on Liverpool’s transfer radar?

Assane Diao is Real Betis’ most exciting young prospect at the moment. The 18-year-old is already playing regular first team football at the club and has scored four goals in 28 first team appearances so far.

Still very young, there is a lot to like about Diao. He loves to drive at opponents and he is really skilful with excellent speed. Exactly the type of direct winger that Liverpool have loved to recruit over the years.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that he is on Liverpool’s radar, having been linked with the club in the past. It’s also interesting to note that he has a £25m release clause.
