'Slight favourites': Jens Lehmann shares who he thinks are most likely to win tonight - Arsenal or Bayern

Arsenal are enjoying a great season, and Tuesday night will see another crucial episode of the Gunners’ 2023/24 campaign unfold.

The Gunners currently sit top of the Premier League table after matchweek 31, going top on Saturday night after getting the better of Brighton.

Liverpool failed to win at Manchester United the following day, so they missed out on the opportunity to leapfrog Arsenal at the summit once again.

Meanwhile, Tuesday night sees the Gunners’ attention turn to the Champions League, where they’ll be up against Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.

In years gone by, Arsenal often found their Champions League journeys ended by the Bavarians, but this time, the Gunners are arguably in a stronger position.

While Arsenal are in pole position for the Premier League title, their opponents are set to relinquish the Bundesliga shield to Bayer Leverkusen this term.

With such a big tie on the cards, plenty of pundits have been having their say, especially those who have prior history with Arsenal and/or Bayern.

What has Jens Lehmann said about Arsenal v Bayern?

Jens Lehmann, the Invincibles goalkeeper, has acknowledged that the Gunners are “slight favourites” to win the tie, and named a number of things where Arsenal appear to have the edge on Bayern.

“Arsenal are slight favourites but Bayern are still a team with players who can always make the difference and also have the experience to win big tight games,” Lehmann told Metro.

“From my perspective, they have more weaknesses than Arsenal. The organization, for example. Inconsistency is mostly a matter of organization.

“Arsenal also maintain a high pace throughout most positions. That is lacking at Bayern. And Arsenal are defensively more stable.”

It’ll be a difficult match for the Gunners, particularly considering Harry Kane is in the opposite ranks and will be eager to give fans of his former club bragging rights over their north London rivals.

Nevertheless, for the first time in a long time, Arsenal can be said to be favourites over a Bayern side that will be desperate to regroup at the end of the season.

Arsenal v Bayern Munich team news

Arsenal don’t have any major personnel issues ahead of the Bayern match, with just Jurrien Timber – who has been recovering from a long-term injury – likely to miss out.

Meanwhile, the German top-flight’s second-placed side has been boosted by the potential return of five players to their ranks ahead of the Arsenal match.

Aleksandar Pavlovic, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane, Manuel Neuer and Noussair Mazraoui all missed Saturday’s shock defeat to Heidenheim.

However, the quintet all took part in training on Monday morning, so they could well be back in the XI or matchday squad.

Arsenal v Bayern is set to kick off at 8pm BST on Tuesday night, with the return leg scheduled at Bayern’s Allianz Arena for Wednesday 17 April at 8pm BST.
