'Fabulous': Gary Lineker blown away by £90k-a-week Arsenal player's efforts v Bayern tonight

Arsenal were hoping to follow up their good Premier League efforts so far this season by building a solid foundation in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.

The Gunners, currently top of the Premier League table, hosted Bayern Munich in the first leg of their tie at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Things began well enough for Arsenal, who took the lead in the 12th minute thanks to a superb curling effort from Bukayo Saka.

However, the visitors didn’t need long to equalise, with former Gunners talent Serge Gnabry striking back in the 18th minute.

Then, in the 32nd minute, Harry Kane converted a penalty that William Saliba had conceded after tripping Leroy Sane in the Gunners box.

However, Arsenal managed to stop Bayern from scoring a quickfire third thanks to a superb Ben White challenge on Sane.

Arsenal fight back to claim equaliser against Bayern Munich

This proved crucial for the Gunners, who went on to equalise through Leandro Trossard in the 76th minute of the match.

Bayern let a ball bounce midway in their half, and Arsenal made the most of it as Martin Odegaard flicked it to Saka.

The 22-year-old then played Gabriel Jesus into the box, and he held off pressure to square for Trossard to roll into the far corner of the net.

Cue pandemonium in the Arsenal stands, and Gary Lineker loved what he saw from the £90,000-a-week Belgian forward.

He took to X to hail the “fabulous and vital goal from Trossard” to drag Arsenal back to parity.

There was a moment of controversy in second-half injury-time, with Saka going down under pressure from Manuel Neuer.

However, referee Glenn Nyberg waved away the penalty appeals, with the final whistle going not long after.

And so it finished Arsenal 2-2 Bayern, with the tie evenly poised ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.

Prior to that game, the Gunners are back in Premier League action, hosting Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon in a 4:30pm BST kick-off.
