'Poorest I think I've ever seen him play': Sky pundit slams 21-year-old Leeds player during Sunderland draw

Don Goodman suggested that he had not seen one Leeds United player play worse than he did during the first-half against Sunderland on Tuesday night, insisting that he did not make one good decision throughout.

Leeds missed a golden opportunity to put pressure on their automatic-promotion rivals. As Leicester were losing against Millwall, Daniel Farke’s side were struggling to ask any questions of the Black Cats.

Leeds very quickly looked to be out of ideas at Elland Road. Sunderland were happy to sit back and soak up pressure.

And in truth, it was the visitors who generally looked most dangerous when they did manage to get into the final third.

Leeds star had his worst game this season against Sunderland

Leeds should have had two penalties. However, the Whites rarely looked threatening. And one of those who had a particularly tough night was Georginio Rutter.

Georginio is usually so reliable for Leeds. Obviously, he has a remarkable number of assists this season. But he was not able to produce one key pass on Tuesday, according to Whoscored.

And speaking on Sky Sports at half-time (broadcast on 9/4; 21:03), Don Goodman noted that he had not seen the youngster play worse.

“Sunderland are making it hard for them. But, the choices they’re making, Rutter, I think that’s the poorest I think I’ve ever seen him play in that first-half actually. Literally, he did not make a good decision or a good choice all the way through. He’s not on his own,” he said.

Georginio Rutter has seen his form disappear at the worst time

It does feel as though too many Leeds players have gone off the boil at the same time. Patrick Bamford has not scored for a while. Glen Kamara has not been so influential. And teams have worked out that if you can limit Crysencio Summerville’s impact on a game, you stand a much better chance of stopping Leeds.

It was a fantastic opportunity on Tuesday. But Leeds have now left the door wide open for Ipswich.

And if the likes of Georginio and Bamford do not find their best form again imminently, Leeds will have a play-off campaign to prepare for.
