Leandro Trossard thinks Bayern Munich showed Arsenal ‘need work’ in 2 key areas

Leandro Trossard has revealed the two key areas he feels Arsenal ‘need work’ before visiting Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Gunners’ late hero believes Der FCB showed Mikel Arteta that his north London giants must improve if they are to progress. Trossard rescued Arsenal a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie this Tuesday night. They will go to the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.

Mistakes from David Raya, after Ben White spurned his glorious chance to secure a 2-0 lead, allowed Bayern Munich to overturn their early deficit. Bukayo Saka (12’) broke the deadlock at Emirates Stadium, before Serge Gnabry (18’) and Harry Kane (32’, penalty) quickly replied.

Leandro Trossard feels Arsenal now know how Bayern Munich ‘can hurt us’

White had a brilliant chance to double Arsenal’s advantage against Bayern Munich but shot straight at Manuel Neuer. Ex-Gunner Gnabry then punished Raya for rashly rushing out and forcing Gabriel Magalhaes to scramble, which saw the Gunners lose the ball and their lead.

Raya will also look back with regret at how early he dived out of the way when Kane scored his penalty. The 28-year-old invited the striker to find the back of the goal by moving before Kane was even about to shoot. But Trossard came to Arsenal’s rescue with his late equaliser.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus sat Matthijs de Ligt down with his sublime footwork and rolled the ball off for Trossard to drill home inside Bayern Munich’s box. The Gunners will now fly to Bavaria on April 17 with all to play for in their Champions League quarter-final encounter.

Leandro Trossard admits Mikel Arteta’s players were not ‘at our top level’

Yet while Trossard feels Arsenal can beat Bayern Munich, he admits that Arteta’s team must improve before the second leg. The 29-year-old claims Der FCB have shown where they can ‘hurt’ the Gunners. But Arsenal were also not at their best, mainly on the ball, this Tuesday.

“I think it will be a tough game there, as well,” Trossard has told Arsenal’s in-house media. “They’ve shown how they can hurt us. So, I think we need work on that for next week.

“And to be honest, I think if we’re at our top level, we can beat them. I think maybe on the ball today that wasn’t the case. So, we know what we’re going to work on. But, hopefully, we can finish it there.”

Arteta will especially want Arsenal to focus on their 20 minutes of mayhem as they work at London Colney ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich. The Gunners made a fantastic start to the first leg but let Der FCB respond.

Had Martin Odegaard not slowed Leroy Sane before White made a vital tackle in the 36th-minute, Bayern Munich could have destroyed Arsenal’s hopes with a 3-1 lead. Raya let Der FCB in after creating chaos and ahead after pre-empting Kane’s penalty but Arsenal atoned.
