£85m player’s agent hints he could leave Sporting CP if Ruben Amorim is appointed at Liverpool

An £85m player could leave Sporting if Ruben Amorim was appointed as manager of Liverpool.

By all accounts, it seems like Ruben Amorim is edging closer to a move to Liverpool. The 39-year-old will come with an impressive pedigree and could be the perfect appointment for the Reds.

During his time in Portugal, Amorim helped Braga to a Cup title. He delivered a first league title for Sporting CP in 19 years. And now looks on course to repeat that feat this season after what happened last weekend.

Amorim has a proven track record of bringing the best out of his players as well. Under him, a host of young players have developed into elite talent.

The likes of Matheus Nunes and Nuno Mendes have moved onto Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain. Joao Palhinha meanwhile has become one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League at Fulham.

Why Viktor Gyokeres has been Ruben Amorim’s crowning achievement

Undoubtedly, one of the players who has improved under Ruben Amorim the most is Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish international of Hungarian descent was already posting impressive numbers at Coventry last season.

However, he has taken his game to another level under Amorim since arriving at Sporting CP last summer.

So far this season, Gyokeres has 51 goal contributions in 46 matches for Sporting CP in all competitions. That is an incredible return, and something Amorim has definitely played his part in.

He has made Gyokeres the focal point of Sporting CP’s attack and utilised the forward’s speed and ability to find space inside the box.

Together they have made the perfect partnership, and it will be interesting to see what happens next. Gyokeres could definitely leave the club this summer, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool were interested in him alongside Amorim.

What exactly did Viktor Gyokeres’ agent say?

As per respected Portuguese journalist, Pedro Sepulveda, Gyokeres’ agent, has admitted that his client’s future could be elsewhere if Amorim left Sporting CP.

“If Rúben Amorim leaves, it will be more difficult for Gyokeres to stay,” Gyokeres’ agent Hasan Centikaya told A Bola.

Sepulveda has also reported that Gyokeres has a release clause of 100 million Euros, which is roughly £85m. Given the numbers he posted this season, that value makes him an absolute bargain in this market.
