Incredible footage of Sunderland fans now emerges after Leeds United draw

Sunderland fans enjoyed their goalless draw away at Leeds United on Tuesday night.

During what’s been a rough 2024 and a turbulent 2023/24 season on the whole, Sunderland fans will have been quietly delighted with their side’s draw at Leeds United on Tuesday.

The Black Cats headed to Elland Road with very little hope of anything other than defeat.

Leeds United were looking to return to the top two after defeat at Coventry City last weekend, whilst Mike Dodds‘ side were looking to build on a 0-0 draw vs Bristol City.

But Sunderland gave Leeds a good match.

Dodds hailed the unbelievable’ Dan Neil after the game, with the 22-year-old perhaps the standout player in what was a memorable night for Sunderland fans.

Chris Rigg earned another start against Leeds.

He started on the right, playing in front of Timothee Pembele who also impressed.

Sunderland Echo rated Rigg’s performance a 6/10, highlighting the ‘valuable learning experience’ away at an intense and cagey Elland Road.

The 16-year-old has now featured 17 times in the Championship this season.

He’s become more of a feature under Dodds of late, with Rigg apparently set to sign a pro deal with Sunderland in the summer.

Rigg has started three of the last four games now and continues to gain fans on Wearside.

Sunderland fans were given a full allocation for the trip to Elland Road, taking a sell-out crowd of 2,916 despite the season petering out into very little.

The Black Cats faithful was in full voice as ever and after the game, they were filmed cheering and chanting Rigg’s name.

Transfer interest in Chris Rigg

It’s no secret that Rigg has interest from elsewhere.

Ahead of his scholarship deal running out in the summer, Rigg has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

Anyone and everyone facies Rigg right now.

But he’s at Sunderland, and he’s getting game time with the club, so he looks set to sign a professional contract in the summer and the Black Cats look set to see his transfer value sky rocket.

It’ll be great news for the Sunderland owners if Rigg signs a new deal, though expect the club to want to keep hold of him for a while longer yet.

The Black Cats return to action at West Brom this weekend where another vocal following will back Riggs and his teammates.
