Tide recalls 8.2M pods due to ingestion risk. See the full list of recalled laundry packets

Manufacturer Procter and Gamble has recalled 82 million laundry detergent pods, including Tide Pods and Gain Flings, due to risk of ingestion. They come in faulty, flexible film bags that may be difficult to close.

Manufacturer Procter and Gamble has issued a recall for 8.2 million laundry detergent pods due to ingestion risk.

The pods, which include the Tide brand variety, come in faulty, flexible film bags that may be difficult to close due to an issue during manufacturing.

The defective packaging can split open near the zipper track, putting people, especially kids and other vulnerable populations, at risk of serious injury if the pods are ingested. This can also pose a risk of skin or eye injuries.

While Procter and Gamble has not received reports of injury directly related to these faulty bags, the company received four reports of children in the United States accessing the pods. Three of the kids reportedly ingested laundry pods during the time that the recalled products were sold, but Procter and Gamble has not yet confirmed if the pods came from the recalled packages.

The recall includes certain varieties of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods and Ariel Pods in bags with 12 to 39 laundry pods between $5 and $30 manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024.

They were sold nationwide from September 2023 through recent days at Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart and other major stores plus online at Amazon.com and other websites. Another 56,741 were sold in Canada.

Procter and Gamble and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urge consumers to immediately secure the pods and keep them out of reach of children. “Since it is not possible to close the product, we recommend transferring the product to a Tide PODS or Gain Flings tub with a Child Resistant Closure,” Procter and Gamble said.

Consumers can request a full refund in a prepaid debit card, a free replacement child-resistant bag to store the pods and a cabinet lock for securing laundry materials by choosing the brand they purchased the pods from and sending a photo of the recalled product with the lot code here.
