'Nothing to see here': Journalist shares Leeds United v Sunderland clip that'll have Daniel Farke fuming

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke will surely be fuming at this emerging footage from the draw with Sunderland.

Sunderland drew 0-0 with Leeds United in the Championship on Tuesday night.

And the result garnered mixed reactions from the Elland Road crowd; Leeds fans were frustrated, whilst the sell-out Sunderland crowd was pleased.

For Mike Dodds, it’s another point on the board and another clean sheet.

And Sunderland played their share of football too, with Dan Neil being the standout player on the night.

But the Black Cats perhaps got a bit lucky against Leeds.

Sunderland very much frustrated Leeds.

Not only did they have their share of the ball and their share of chances too, but Leeds may feel like Sunderland got very lucky with one or two decisions.

Namely, a handball shout in the second half.

Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville swung in a corner in the 75th minute as Leeds looked to find an opening goal.

But as defender Joe Rodon rose to meet the corner, the hand of Luke O’Nien rose up and made contact with the ball.

Referee Tim Robinson waved away appeals for a penalty.

Now, journalist Matty Hewitt has since shared the clip on X:

Will the English Football League install VAR

Sunderland fans will largely admit that Leeds should’ve been awarded a penalty for the above incident.

But at the same time, Sunderland, like most other teams in the league, have experienced their fair share of poor refereeing decisions this season.

And with Leeds pushing for promotion and being setback by poor officiating, there’ll always be cries for VAR to be installed.

Though there’s no reports of VAR being installed in the Championship or the Football League anytime soon, which will come as good news to the wider footballing community.

There’s still a lot of flaws with the system and the Championship has kept its charm in the absence of VAR, whilst the Premier League receives criticism and controversy.

So for Sunderland, a bit of luck during this tough run of form won’t go amiss.

But the Black Cats largely made their own luck at Elland Road; playing without fear and with a genuine quality that we’ve not seen all to much in 2024.

Up next for Dodds and Sunderland is a trip to West Brom this weekend.
