How Liverpool could line-up next season with Ruben Amorim, and what could be about to change - opinion

This is how Liverpool could line-up if Ruben Amorim was appointed as manager of the club.

At this moment in time, it looks likeRuben Amorim is primed to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Amorim is an interesting choice for Liverpool.

He is someone with a proven pedigree, although still very early on in his managerial career. At 39-years-old, he already has four years of experience working in the game.

In those four years, he won a Cup title with Braga, and then delivered a first league title at Sporting CP in 19 years. That’s just some of his achievements.

Amorim is known as a great man manager. He gets the best out of his players. He also loves to embrace young players and is known to give plenty of them opportunities.

During his time at Sporting CP, so far he has given debuts to 25 players aged 21-years-old or younger. All of that means he will be a great fit for Liverpool, who has put a special emphasis on the club’s academy over the years.

How Ruben Amorim will line-up at Liverpool

If he is the manager to succeed Klopp, there will be changes made at Liverpool. Amorim has a different style in comparison to the German.

He places a special emphasis on a back three, rather than a back four, and has always used a 3-4-3 system that usually turns into a 3-4-2-1.

Take a look at this example Squawka has posted on how Amorim’s team also has the tendency to shift into a 3-2-5 build-up shape.

What does this mean for Liverpool? And what could the starting XI look like?

This obviously means Amorim will likely change Klopp’s preferred 4-3-3. It also means the role of the wingers will change significantly.

As you can see above, in Amorim’s system, wingers are more like attacking midfielders.

So, for some players who love to run up and down the line like Luis Diaz, this new formation may not suit them very well. Perhaps it’s no surprise that Diaz has been linked with a move away.

The starting XI under Amorim could very well look like this if we are using just Liverpool’s current players:

Alisson will be in goal. The three centre-backs would probably be Van Dijk, Quansah, and Konate. The wing-backs will be Robertson and Alexander-Arnold.

The two midfielders sitting deep would likely be Mac Allister and Endo. Meanwhile, Salah would probably play the right-attacking midfielder role, alongside Szoboszlai on the left.

Up top, it will be a variation of Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota, if everyone is fit.

Meanwhile, the likes of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones will also have big roles to play in the left and right sided attacking midfield role.
