'Gives me hope': Harry Kane shares what happened to him at Tottenham which is helping him at Bayern now

Back in 2019, Tottenham Hotspur had struggled in the League but Mauricio Pochettino had managed to guide Spurs to the Champions League final. Harry Kane had just about managed to get himself fit.

Kane had missed the last six Premier League matches of that season, the quarter-final second leg and both semi-finals games against Ajax – in which Lucas Moura scored a hat-trick to guide them to a final.

There were question marks over his fitness for the Champions League final but despite that, Pochettino started the England skipper. Spurs suffered a 2-0 loss, Mo Salah scoring an early, controversial penalty.

Moussa Sissoko conceding a spot kick for hand ball. Then, late on, Divock Origi came off the bench to slam one into the bottom corner. A 2-0 win for Liverpool, the closest Kane has come to a major trophy.

Tottenham reached the 18-19 final, but struggled in the league

Fast forward to the summer of 2023, and Kane decided to leave Tottenham to join Bayern in order to win a trophy. However, and despite scoring 39 goals, he has been unable to stop the Bayer Leverkusen train.

Bayern are set to miss out on the league title for the first time – ironically, in Kane’s first season. But you would still back the England skipper to go on and win the league title at some point with Bayern.

Strangely, Bayern’s season is kind of mimicking Tottenham’s 2018-19 campaign – in that Spurs were poor in the league that season, but reached the final of the Champions League. Kane says that is helping him.

He told Hayters TV that the campaign in which Spurs reached the final but did poorly in the league is helping him and more importantly, giving him hope, that Bayern can reach the Champions League final.

Harry Kane’s comparison between 18-19, and now at Bayerm

“That campaign itself was similar, we weren’t having a great time in the league but we managed to find some passion and togetherness in the Champions League and get to the final, of course, we didn’t win it.

“But that experience gives me hope that we can perform in the big games and the big quarter-final at home next week and get back to the final. Being at Wembley is an extra motivation, my national stadium.”

Do Bayern stand a chance of winning the Champions League? Well they have certainly given themselves an advantage in the tie with Arsenal. The scores level, with the second leg to be played at The Allianz.

They will then either face Manchester City or Real Madrid. Most experts and pundits believe the winner of that tie will win the whole thing. But Bayern will have something to say about that, if they beat Arsenal.
