Owen Hargreaves claims one elite team does not have ‘weakness,’ reminds him of iconic 2007-08 Man Utd side

TNT Sports pundit Owen Hargreaves has boldly claimed that one team does not have a “weakness” and “reminds” him of the iconic Manchester United side he played in.

Owen Hargreaves was signed from Bayern Munich in 2007 and was brought to Old Trafford by legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson in a deal worth £17m.

The 43-year-old former Manchester United and England midfielder had a successful spell at Old Trafford, including lifting major silverware under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Hargreaves, who lifted three Bundesliga titles and a Champions League with Bayern Munich, was part of United’s beloved 2007-08 team during his time at the club.

The former Bayern and United star lifted both the Premier League title and the Champions League trophy in the same season at the Red Devils.

However, Hargreaves’ run at Old Trafford was plagued by injuries and the ex-England international only managed 39 appearances for the Premier League club.

The ex-United man was released from the Red Devils in 2011 and had a very brief spell with Manchester City before he called it time on his injury-hit career.

Hargreaves compares team to Man Utd side

Owen Hargreaves was on punditry duties for TNT Sports alongside former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand for the Champions League this week.

The TNT Sports pundit spoke highly of United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, who secured a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in their first-leg quarter-final tie on Tuesday.

Hargreaves insisted that the Gunners’ current team shows shades of the United team that Sir Alex Ferguson had when he was at Old Trafford.

The ex-Bayern and United midfielder added that Arsenal “can play in any style,” along with claiming that the Gunners don’t have a weakness.

Speaking ahead of the Arsenal vs Bayern match, Hargreaves said: “This Arsenal team reminds me of the United team we played [in]. Well, we were very lucky.

“We kind were blessed. We had everything we could play the possession game, we could outscore you, Defensively, we were very good. Good on set pieces.

“This Arsenal team for the first time in a decade. I don’t think they have a weakness. They can play in any style and I don’t think they’ll fear Bayern Munich.

“So, I think they can be confident and they’re the better team right now. I think looking at those teams, I think they’ll probably show it.”

He added: “I think they’ll be full of belief and I think this crowd is in for a treat tonight.”

Man Utd rivals Arsenal impressing this season

Arsenal are locked in a heated three-way Premier League title race alongside defending champions Manchester City and Liverpool this season.

The Gunners are currently top of the league with seven matches remaining, although second-place Liverpool are level on points and City are one point behind.

United could even derail Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge this season, with the Red Devils set to host the Gunners at Old Trafford in May.

Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge was thwarted last season after City completed their continental treble, becoming the second English team to achieve such a feat.

However, Mikel Arteta’s men are pushing for the Premier League crown again and Hargreaves’ comments are no doubt big praise for the Spaniard’s work at the club.
