My 600-lb Life Shakyia ‘lives in constant pain’

Shakyia kicked off her episode with determination. She was 26 years old and weighed 655 lbs.

The star explained how she’d been through a lot in her youth, moving from her parents’ homes, into foster care and then later returning to live with her mom.

At 11 years old, she weighed 200 lbs. She explains how she was bullied at school and that food “filled a void” in her life.

The Georgia native and her family set about making a 15-hour trip to Houston to meet Dr Now after she shared her “painful” morning routine with viewers. She had lymphedema and said she was in “constant pain.”

She ‘ghosts’ Dr Now

When Shakyia’s My 600-lb Life episode begins, she says food is her happiness and it is a “top priority” in her life.

However, she shifts her mindset after meeting Dr Now, saying: “It’s going to be tough, but I’m going to do it.”

Looking at his patient’s case, Dr Now said it was a “miracle she was still here.”

As her journey progresses, Shakyia embarks on a diet and can be seen preparing a chicken salad when her sister comes to visit.

But, the My 600-lb Life star faced some hurdles in her weight loss mission as she got sick during the process and said she spent time in a hospital. When Dr Now tried to call her, there was no answer.

Shakyia’s mom also said she couldn’t live with her anymore. She explained how she was going to move in with friends and still keep the weight loss goal in her sights.

By month 10, the star had found somewhere to live and said she’d lost “some weight.” At this point she explained she felt it wouldn’t be long before she reached out to Dr Now to get back on track.

Fans call the episode a ‘waste of time’

Unfortunately for Shakyia, her weight loss journey was affected by multiple things.

During a video call with Dr Now in month 11, she asks if she can get weight loss surgery if she loses more weight.

He responds: “If you have done the diet, you would have lost three to four hundred pounds by now, which clearly you haven’t done that.”

The doctor explained: “Until you lose a good amount of weight, then we can’t go ahead…”

At her next appointment, it’s revealed she lost 12lb in one year.

Dr Now tells her she’s “wasted time” in the year and savage fans were quick to jump on X (Twitter) to agree the episode was a “waste of time.”

One wrote: “This whole episode was a waste of my time!!!”

Taking to a Reddit thread, one fan wrote: “Her story is heartbreaking. As much as I want a huge train wreck of an episode. I do hope she’s successful.”

Dr Now gave the patient another chance and said she had a goal of losing 50lb in two months in order to get back on track.

During her final weigh-in, she’s 635lb and fears Dr Now will “think she’s not trying.” The doctor isn’t impressed by her losing 8lb instead of the 50lb goal he set her.

Looking at Shakyia’s Facebook page, she appears to be in good spirits these days as she shares a smiley selfie writing: “This Smile Holds A Thousand Words That I Cant Even Explain. Just Know I Am Peace Within Myself And This Smile Can Confirm That.”

She’s also putting all her efforts into her customized snow globe and cup business as she shares her products online.
