Harvey Elliott says he’s noticed something really ‘special’ about the Liverpool crowd at Anfield

Liverpool are back to home comforts tonight as they take on Atalanta in the Europa League.

The Reds have been incredible at Anfield throughout the season so far. Up until this point, they are yet to be defeated at home in all competitions.

In terms of the Premier League, Liverpool haven’t lost since Crysencio Summerville scored a late winner for Leeds United in October 2022. No wonder the Reds are reportedly looking at him as a transfer target.

This season, things have gone up another level. With Jurgen Klopp set to depart at the end of the season, every game at Anfield has taken on even greater importance. The atmosphere has been electric.

Fans have noticed it, and it seems that the players have, too. Speaking to the press before this evening’s Europa League game, Elliott went out of his way to praise the supporters.

What has Harvey Elliott said about Anfield

Of course, we don’t need Elliott to tell us that Anfield in one of the most special stadiums about. The ground has won so many plaudits from those to have experienced it over the years.

It was only last week that Arsenal defender William Saliba was naming Liverpool’s stadium as the best atmosphere in the country, for example.

But still, it’s nice to hear it from one of your own as well. It shouldn’t be taken for granted that the Reds crowd back their players pretty much no matter what. And, thankfully, Elliott recognises that.

“Our fans are amazing,” raved the 21-year-old. “Not only at Anfield but away games as well, they travel all around the world to watch us play. They drive us on and they’re our 12th man.

“For us playing at Anfield walking out to You’ll Never Walk Alone, hearing the fans sing, there’s no better feeling and better buzz to play our football,” Elliott added, “Even if we’re trailing or not having best of games they’re always there supporting us. As players that’s all you can ask for. Anfield is one of a kind, our fans are special, there’s no doubt about that and I’m sure we’ll see it again tomorrow night [vs Atalanta].”

When did Liverpool last lose at Anfield in Europe

We all know just how good Liverpool’s record is at Anfield domestically. But their form in continental competition isn’t quite as stellar.

The Reds don’t often lose on home turf full stop. And in fact, the majority of their ground’s most famous nights have come in European ties.

However, the odd defeat has happened. The last one was a doozy as well. Liverpool were hammered 5-2 by Real Madrid in February last year.

Since then, it’s worth noting that the Reds have been perfect. Played four, won four. 17 goals scored, two conceded. Let’s hope that that little run can continue when Atalanta come to town tonight.
