Staff from Sir William Roberston Academy, Welbourn, to run Lincoln 10k for Newark Breast Cancer Support Group

A team of 16 staff members from a school are set to run 10k for charity, in memory of a “much loved” colleague.

The mix of teachers, teaching assistants and staff members from Sir William Robertson Academy, Welbourn, are set to run the Lincoln 10k on April 14.

Carol Harley, who worked at the school for 20 years, passed away in April 2023 after a battle with cancer.

Computer science teacher Helen Pavey said: “Carol was very much a loved member of staff, not just by other staff but by pupils too.

“She was quite a character as well — no-one messed with Mrs Harley. She was a really lovely member of staff.

“I think it just hit everyone really hard, including the kids, because she just happened to be so young.”

In her memory, current staff are aiming to raise money for a charity which supported Carol most when she had cancer, Newark Breast Cancer Support Group.

The team of teachers and staff are ready to run in memory of their colleague.

Helen added: “The Lincoln 10k was coming up and someone in the staff said why don’t we just get a team together and raise money for a charity in memory of Carol.

“It also coincindes, Carol died on April 18 last year, and his race is on April 14, so its four days out of when she passed away.”
