'Really struggled': Local media say 22-year-old Leeds loanee kept giving the ball away last night

For the many players currently on loan from Leeds United, it is now crunch time for them to earn permanent transfers.

There are now just a handful of matches remaining this season and so clubs will be starting to put their summer transfer plans in place.

So far, only Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch have managed to earn themselves a permanent move elsewhere since leaving Leeds on loan, and so for many, their future is up in the air.

The likes of Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen have both struggled since leaving on loan, and while in the case of the former he wants to stay at Union Berlin, the question is whether he has done enough to do so.

On the other hand, Marc Roca and Max Wober are among those who have done well, but are at clubs whose finances are uncertain and therefore could make a transfer tough.

Leeds loanee Greenwood criticised after performance for Boro

A little closer to home than that aforementioned quartet, Leeds also have a number of players on loan at clubs across the EFL.

Both Luke Ayling and Sam Greenwood are at Middlesbrough and could actually do Leeds a massive favour on Saturday as they come up against Ipswich Town.

However, for Greenwood, he will seriously have to improve to cope against a side like Ipswich if his performance in Boro’s 2-2 draw with Hull City is anything to go by.

Greenwood has been struggling for a number of weeks now but a post-match player ratings piece by the Northern Echo has really gone in on his display.

They wrote: “4 Greenwood: Really struggled. Sloppy and ponderous in possession. The game passed him by. No surprise to see him replaced when Carrick turned to his bench for the first time.”

Greenwood chances of Boro move surely reducing

Greenwood actually made a promising start to life in a Boro shirt after moving on loan late in the summer, as he scored five goals and provided two assists before the turn of the New Year.

However, it has not been 15 matches since he last actually contributed to a goal and for someone playing in a front four, that is simply not good enough.

Boro have an option-to-buy of £1.5 million for Greenwood at the end of the season but that is not a cheap deal for a side that spent several years in the Championship.

Given how ineffective he has been,it is feeling more and more unlikely that Boro will activate that option, which could make for an uncertain summer for the 22-year-old.
