'We're gonna take it easy': Michail Antonio's incredibly silly comments will fire up Leverkusen stars

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has spoken out ahead of the Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen tonight.

Michail Antonio and his West Ham teammates are currently out in Germany ahead of the crunch Europa League quarter-final first-leg against Bayer Leverkusen.

Interestingly, Leverkusen’s official website has already mocked the Hammers’ defence, labelling it as ‘susceptible’.

David Moyes will be determined to take his players to the BayArena tonight and spoil Bayer Leverkusen’s party.

The Bundesliga side have been rampant this season. They’re unbeaten in 41 matches in all competitions and are currently sitting top of the Bundesliga table, a whopping 16 points clear of second placed Bayern Munich.

The size of the task that faces West Ham is a monumental one, and Antonio really hasn’t made it any easier for us…

The Jamaica international has been at it again on his weekly podcast.

Antonio’s regular appearances on his podcast is a real bone of contention amongst the West Ham fanbase.

And he has just put his foot in his mouth once again…

The Hammers forward explained how he and his teammates are approaching the Leverkusen clash, when speaking on the Footballer’s Football podcast:

“One thing with us is when people expect us to lose, other things happen. You could talk to Tottenham when they came to us top of the league in 2016 thinking they were gonna win the league. Who stopped them? It was me. Two years ago we went to Sevilla away, lost 1-0, came back and everyone thought it was over, they always win the Europa League and stuff like that. What happened? It was us, knocked them out, home game, atmosphere was unbelievable. Last year everyone thought Fiorentina had the better team, West Ham is just alright, thinking we’ve done well just to get to the final. Nope, we’re holding the trophy. We’re gonna take it easy, go there, believe and go out there and do what we can. As long as we perform well it doesn’t matter if we win or we lose. We just have to go out there and do enough for the fans to be happy.”

I’m sorry, but should Micky really be giving the Leverkusen players any extra motivation ahead of the game?

The 34-year-old has been criticised by the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor in the past for opening his mouth when perhaps he shouldn’t have.

I just feel like the Michail Antonio comments ahead of the Bayer Leverkusen Europa League clash were a bit self defeating, and they will only serve to fire up the German side even more.

Why not just keep quiet and do your talking on the pitch?
