N.J. school paraprofessional killed in crash after stopping at Jackson intersection

The 57-year-old school paraprofessional killed in a two-vehicle crash in Jackson on Tuesday morning collided with a Jeep just after she stopped at a stop sign, authorities said.

Carole Stevenson was driving on Lakehurst Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. when she stopped at the corner of Toms River Road, Jackson police said. The crash with a Jeep driven by a Jackson man took place moments later, Chief Matthew Kunz said.

Stevenson was brought to an area hospital, where she died of her injuries a little more than an hour later.

The crash remains under investigation. Police didn’t immediately say if the other driver was hurt.

Stevenson, of Ocean Gate, worked as a paraprofessional at Spruce Street School and Piner Elementary School in Lakewood, TheLakwoodScoop.com said. School officials in Lakewood have not responded to NJ Advance Media’s requests for information.

“Carole was talented and adventurous in many aspects of her life,” anonline obituary said. “She was a master of crafts, loved magic, and an amazing grandmother. Not a day went by where Carole didn’t talk about how much her children and grandchildren meant to her — family was arguably her most important achievement in life.”

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Jackson police officer Donald Lasko at 32-928-1111 x2406.
