'He shouldn't have': Pundit baffled by what 'brilliant' 27-year-old Man City star said after Real Madrid draw

Manchester City played out a 3-3 draw with Real Madrid – and today, Alan Brazil has questioned what one player said after the pulsating match.

City and Real shared the spoils at the Bernabeu, with the contest certainly living up the the pre-match hype.

There were three goals inside the first 15 minutes, with City taking the lead before being set back by the hosts through Eduardo Camavinga’s deflected strike and Rodrygo’s goal, which was also deflected.

Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol hit stunners in the second-half to give City the lead again, but Fede Valverde’s brilliant late volley made it 3-3, and it now promises to be a great game back at the Etihad next week.

We’re now approaching mid-April and the pressure and intensity is really starting to crank up for al the players.

Fatigue is beginning to set in, and Rodri admitted after the game with Real Madrid that he was feeling somewhat tired – and Alan Brazil has now questioned these comments.

Rodri has been heavily involved once again this season for City.

He’s missed a handful of games through suspension, but the Spaniard has been a constant pick for Pep in the midfield, as there is simply no one else who can do what he does.

Rodri, 27, was not at his usual best against Real Madrid, and made a number of sloppy passes by his high standards.

He also looked a bit off his usual level against Crystal Palace and after the game with Real Madrid, the 27-year-old admitted (via BBC Sport): “I do need a rest. Let’s see how we speak, how we live the situation. Sometimes it is what it is.

“I need to adjust. It [rest] is something we are planning, yes.”

This morning on talkSPORT, Alan Brazil reacted to these comments – and he wasn’t too sure about the public nature of them. He said: “I don’t want to put the boot into Rodri because he’s been brilliant but he shouldn’t have gone public.”

Brazil’s co-host Ally McCoist also expressed his surprise about the public nature of Rodri’s comments.

Rodri comments are not an issue

Rodri publicly admitted to feeling a little tired and some have questioned his decision to do that – but it’s really not that big of a deal.

He has just said what a lot of players right now are probably feeling at this stage of the season.

He is just trying to protect himself a little, and perhaps get the rest that he craves. Last season Rodri made 56 appearances, missing just five matches. This term, he has already made 47 for City and Spain.

The very last thing City need is him getting injured for the business end of the season,

It really isn’t that big of a deal that he’s publicly pleaded for a rest. It’s not like him letting everyone know can affect how the opposition play, because Rodri is going to play how he’s going to play regardless.
