28-year-old West Ham player has picked up a hamstring injury in training - journalist

West Ham United face a huge clash against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League this evening.

The Hammers will be without key man Jarrod Bowen after the forward picked up a knee injury in the 2-1 win at Wolves.

David Moyes’ men face a difficult task as they take on Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Leverkusen side away from home.

The German side are just one victory away from winning the Bundesliga and are yet to taste defeat this season.

West Ham head into the game off the back of a couple of positive results against Wolves and Tottenham.

But following the news of Bowen’s injury, another Hammers star is also set to miss out against Leverkusen tonight.

Kalvin Phillips picks up hamstring injury

The Sun’s Jack Rosser shared an update on Kalvin Phillips’ fitness today and claims the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in training this week.

Phillips is expected to be out for around two weeks after Moyes confirmed the midfielder will miss the clash against Leverkusen.

“Phillips expected to be out for around a fortnight. Picked up his hamstring injury in training on Tuesday,” the journalist wrote.

Phillips absence not a massive blow for West Ham

It’s no secret that Phillips has struggled since his switch to the London Stadium back in January.

The 28-year-old is yet to rediscover the form which earned him a move to Manchester City two summers ago.

Due to his slow start at West Ham, the Englishman has been an unused substitute over the past couple of weeks.

Phillips was unlikely to start in Leverkusen tonight but Bowen will be a huge miss for the Hammers.

The forward has netted 19 goals in 40 appearances this season and West Ham will be relying on others to step up in his absence.
