Cole Palmer is now one assist away from doing something no Chelsea player has ever done in the Premier League

Cole Palmer is going from one record to the next during this stunning debut season in Chelsea colours.

Many people will have looked at the Cole Palmer signing from Manchester City last summer as another poor bit of business by Chelsea, whose focus has been heavily on recruiting young stars that are for the future.

However, the 21-year-old’s emphatically proven that he’s a player for the now!

His impact at Stamford Bridge has led to a first senior England cap and the sky looks like the limit for him.

Cole Palmer one assist away from big achievement

There’s no doubt that Palmer’s incredible goal output has put his name up in lights. We’d like to add the way he’s taken responsibility on his shoulders as a youngster in a new club is equally impressive, too.

The left-footed attacking midfielder has 19 goals and 13 assists in only 37 Chelsea appearances across all competitions.

It’s his work in the Premier League that sees him on the brink of doing something brand new for any Blues player.

Palmer has 16 goals and nine assists in the league, which is why he’s our pick for the PFA Young Player of the Year.

BBC Sport claims that no Chelsea player has ever contributed double figures for both goals and assists in the Premier League during their debut year at Stamford Bridge. Now, Palmer’s just one assist away from achieving that.

Chelsea talisman is the full package

Yes, Palmer’s a goal machine that is at times single-handedly keeping Chelsea’s season alive. But he’s got the genius creativity to go along with that, too.

It’s 13 assists for the Blues (nine in the league) that makes him the squad’s chief creator as well as top scorer.

Our favourite assist from Palmer so far was actually in an FA Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City, where he produced a stunning backheeled pass to set-up Carney Chukwuemeka’s goal.
