Report: £43m player Chelsea really want to sign now actually wants to stay at his current club

Reports have claimed that one player Chelsea wanted to sign this summer has actually made his mind up on what he wants to do this summer.

According to Sport, the player in question wants to stay with his current side, despite interest from a number of parties ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea haven’t made a permanent signing since the final day of the previous summer window, when they brought in Cole Palmer from Manchester City.

The deal came through on the final day of the window, and to many it was a bit out of nowhere due to a lack of links between the club and the player before.

Chelsea want Nico Williams

It has also been stated since then that the Blues nearly went down a different path instead of the England international in the form of Nico Williams.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a top season so far at Athletic Bilbao, recently being part of the side who ended their trophy doubt.

A number of Premier League sides are reportedly interested in a deal for the winger, with him so far scoring six goals and assisting another 14 in all competitions.

It was reported yesterday that Liverpool are taking an interest in him, with them eyeing up potentially having to replace Mohamed Salah at the end of the season off the back of interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, any interested party including Chelsea could be about to suffer a blow, with the player seemingly happy where he is.

The Blues look as if they are going to be busy again at the end of the season after a quiet January, with a number of positions needing strengthening.

However, any big transfers are likely to need to wait until a number of first team players are sold, with even stars like Conor Gallagher reportedly not safe from the axe.
