'I think they will': Chris Sutton shares his prediction for Bournemouth vs Man United; expects three goals

Chris Sutton has shared his prediction as Manchester United prepare to travel to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

Manchester United fans are probably ready to see the back of this Premier League season. Erik ten Hag‘s men have struggled to build on the promise that they showed in the Dutchman’s first campaign.

United now find themselves 11 points off the top four. They have only won one of their last six Premier League games.

One of the lowest points of the season came against Bournemouth in December. Andoni Iraola’s side stunned Old Trafford, winning 3-0.

In fact, by the time the full-time whistle went, there seemed to be such a strong feeling of apathy from the fans. Nevertheless, ten Hag has been able to persevere in the job for the time-being.

This Saturday perhaps provides an opportunity to make amends, with the Cherries next up for United.

However, writing for BBC Sport, Chris Sutton suggested that he can see Bournemouth taking the three points once again.

“Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag claims United should have won their past three games against Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool, which I think is based on the fact they were ahead each time and could not see it out, but it leaves me wondering which matches he is watching,” he said, as he predicted a 2-1 Bournemouth win.

“If you look at the Liverpool game as a whole then they got absolutely battered. Brentford had stacks of chances too and you could argue United were lucky to get back into the game against Chelsea in the first place, when Moises Caicedo helped them out with a poor backpass.

“Bournemouth were brilliant when they won 3-0 at Old Trafford in December, so can they do the double over United? I think they will.

“Will Ten Hag be United’s manager next season? I am pretty sure he won’t.

“I have had problems getting United scores right because they have got some excellent individual players who keep digging them out of trouble but, as we have seen, they can’t rely on that happening in every game.”

Fans would have surely wanted to have seen more progress

Of course, there were always going to be bumps in the road for ten Hag. United have largely been on the decline pretty consistently over the last decade.

But the worry will be that the signs of progress are not being built upon. The playing style seems to be chaotic, with Manchester United facing so many shots by opponents.

It is alarming that they do not appear to be putting a number of wins together at almost any stage.

Some may feel that ten Hag needs a bit more time. But surely, Sutton will not be alone in thinking that his days at Old Trafford may be numbered.
