‘Feels like’: Danny Murphy says 23-year-old Man City player has now become Pep Guardiola’s star man

Danny Murphy has claimed that one Manchester City player has now become Pep Guardiola’s star man.

City’s latest game saw them draw 3-3 with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in their first-leg tie in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After the game, one figure in Pep Guardiola’s ranks found himself being spoken about for the way he has made himself a key figure for the Blues this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy had this to say about Phil Foden and what he’s done for City this season.

He said: “It feels like he’s really at the stage where he thinks I can impact every game I play in, I’m not a bit-part anymore. He starts all the time.

“The problem with Foden is where you get him in the England team because you can’t not have him in it. That’s the headache for Southgate at the moment but we’ll wait and see what he does with that.”

Phil Foden has been a stalwart for City this season

This season has seen the 23-year-old appear in 45 games for City across all competitions, starting 43 of them.

Across those 45 games, Foden has scored 22 goals and delivered 10 assists.

In comparison to last season, the midfielder featured in 48 games across all competitions, starting 29 of them, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists.

This shows how much more prominent the England international has been in Guardiola’s side compared to their Treble-winning campaign, backing what Murphy has said about him.

Taking all of that into account, it’s clear that with his goals and assists this season, Foden has indeed become one of the first names on the teamsheet for City and one of their most important players of the campaign.

Moving forward, if the midfielder can continue delivering goal contributions throughout the remainder of the season, he’ll give the Blues a great chance of adding more silverware to their cabinet.
