White House reminds of Ukraine’s critical need for aid following Russia’s rocket attack on April 11

Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre speaks with reporters during a press briefing at the White House in Washington, U.S., April 3, 2024

"Last night, Russia launched another major series of airstrikes on Ukraine's energy grid as Vladimir Putin continues to try to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people and plunge them into darkness,” she said.

“Russia targeted the largest power station in the Kyiv region, as well as energy facilities in five other regions of Ukraine."

She referenced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's remarks about the need for more air defense systems and interception capabilities to protect people and infrastructure from Russian missiles and drones.

She again urged House Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the National Security Bill, containing aid for Ukraine, to a vote.

"We need to see the bill that has already been passed by an overwhelming majority in the Senate come to a vote,” she said.

“The attacks on Ukraine in the past day are yet another horrifying reminder that Ukraine's need is critical."
