'Out on the grass': Eddie Howe names the Newcastle United player closest to returning from injury right now

Eddie Howe has named the Newcastle United player who is closest to returning from injury right now.

The Magpies’ squad is stretched beyond belief, with Eddie Howe without various key players due to injury. He also has the Sandro Tonali situation to deal with, which has been a major problem since his suspension in October.

Newcastle’s current issues are in defence, with both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles sustaining ACL injuries that could rule them out for as long as nine months.

That has forced Dan Burn to move into the middle of defence, opening the door for Lewis Hall to come into the team. But he picked up a knock against Fulham, while Newcastle also have problems on the opposite flank.

Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento are both injured, with Emil Krafth coming into the side to play at right-back.

The Magpies have so many problems, and now Eddie Howe has provided an update on the player who is closest to being available once again.

Eddie Howe shares positive injury update on Newcastle defender

Ahead of Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Howe spoke to the media.

He provided an injury update on his squad, admitting that Tino Livramento is the injured player who is closest to returning to fitness.

“The closest player to coming back would be Tino Livramento,” he said.

“He has not trained with the team but has been out on the grass.”

Less positive news on Lewis Hall

While Livramento is seemingly not far away from returning after getting injured against West Ham, the latest update on Hall is not quite as positive.

He had to be substituted against Fulham, and is now a doubt for the Tottenham game on Saturday.

“Lewis Hall has not trained at all this week, so he is a slight concern from last week,” Howe said.

Possible problem at left-back for Newcastle against Tottenham

Toon fans will have their fingers crossed that Hall is fit enough to face Tottenham on Saturday.

If not, it could lead to a first Premier League start since January 22nd 2022 for Paul Dummett. He has appeared off the bench in our previous two games, conceding the penalty that cost us victory at home to Everton.

But while the news about Hall is worrying, it is encouraging to hear that Livramento is not too far away from a return.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an impressive first year on Tyneside, and has proven that he is completely comfortable on either side of defence. That is why he is such a valuable player to Eddie Howe, and it is great to know that we could see him play again very soon.
