Report: Newcastle officials privately believe they may be able to keep 26-year-old for one more year

In a perfect world, Newcastle United keep Bruno Guimaraes forever.

The Brazil international is already a Newcastle United legend in the eyes of some fans, despite only joining the club in January 2022.

He became one of the Magpies’ most expensive signings ever when he arrived from Lyon for £40million, and it quickly became apparent that Toon officials had identified a superstar.

Bruno Guimaraes has now played 100 times for the club, and he marked his milestone appearance with the winner against Fulham last weekend. It was a decisive goal in our season, as we aim to qualify for Europe.

And it could also prove to be a decisive goal in keeping Bruno at St James’ Park, as he continues to be linked with a move away.

Bruno Guimaraes is a man in demand

Ever since signing a new contract that included a £100million release clause, there have been rumblings about Bruno leaving Newcastle United.

Unsurprisingly, he is a man in demand. The 26-year-old has admirers at Paris Saint-Germain, while it has also been suggested that Real Madrid could make a bid.

Domestically, Bruno also has interest from Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola a big fan of Newcastle’s number 39.

When Newcastle officials think Bruno Guimaraes could leave

There are obviously fears that he will leave Newcastle United this summer, but the reported feeling inside the club is that he could stay a bit longer.

That is according to the Telegraph, who report that those behind the scenes at St James’ Park believe that they can retain the services of Bruno for one more season.

That will surely depend on Newcastle qualifying for Europe this season, as you have to believe the Brazilian will be on his way out if Eddie Howe’s side fail to secure a place in one of UEFA’s three competitions.

Newcastle will eventually need to be back in the Champions League to keep Bruno

Keeping Bruno for another year would be excellent. Ideally, we can keep him for even longer, but that might depend on performances.

While the midfielder may excuse not playing in the Champions League for one season, he will not want it to be a regular occurrence.

That is why Newcastle will probably need to finish in the top four next season and return to the Champions League if they are to have any chance of keeping Bruno at the club beyond the summer of 2025.

But that is a problem for next year. Our current objective has to be to keep him at St James’ Park this summer, and I have everything crossed in hope that he stays put.
