"Brilliant": Oliver Glasner says one Crystal Palace player has been superb in training lately

Oliver Glasner has been raving about one Crystal Palace player who has blown him away recently in training.

For Oliver Glasner, there are multiple decisions to make over the remainder of this season ahead of a busy summer of change at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace will have known when they appointed the Austrian that they’d be required to do some work in the transfer market to give him the squad he wants.

To do this, there are already a couple of positions that need to be strengthened.

There is one area however which has become a real area of quality for Palace recently.

Now, Glasner has praised the player who’s made that happen.

Oliver Glasner praises Jean-Philippe Mateta for recent displays

Glasner was talking with club media on Friday in preparation for his side visiting Anfield on Sunday.

In this press conference, he was praising one of the standout performers from his time at Selhurst Park thus far.

Jean-Philippe [Mateta] does a brilliant job”, Glasner explained.

“He’s very ambitious in training. We helped him to show his strengths more. It’s all about confidence for strikers. We hope that he scores at Anfield.”

With confidence always being so important for a striker, it is incredible how quickly Glasner was able to rebuild Mateta’s confidence considering how bad he was for large spells under Roy Hodgson.

Four goals in six games under Glasner just demonstrates how huge an impact Glasner has had on the £50k-a-week forward.

Just how improved has Mateta been since Glasner arrived

Before Glasner arrived, Mateta was already closing in on his century of appearances for the Eagles.

However, his goal tally didn’t reflect a striker who had played that many games.

Let’s compare his numbers under Glasner to those without Glasner.

This season, before Glasner even arrived Mateta has been much improved as in his past nine games he has five goals and an assist.

He also scored in back-to-back games against Liverpool and Man City in December, something he will now be looking to repeat this weekend.
