Brendan Rodgers talks "integrity" in response to objects thrown at Celtic staff and players at Ibrox

Brendan Rodgers was asked about the unsavoury incidents at Ibrox last week involving objects being thrown at Celtic staff during the draw with Rangers.

A bottle appeared to be hurled at Matt O’Riley after he scored an exquisite penalty, while coins were thrown at the Celtic dugout during the 3-3 result.

The club have already released comments to the press about the incidents, confirming that they have shared serious concerns with Rangers about the matter.

It’s completely unacceptable conduct in any arena.

Speaking in a media conference today, Rodgers chose to highlight the positives he saw from his staff and players rather than the ugly scenes themselves when asked about the incidents.

The Celtic boss said [Celtic FC YouTube]: “The integrity of the team on the field and the staff off of it, was exemplary. That’s what we want. It’s not ideal – these situations – in the games, but our integrity on and off the pitch was superb.”

Rodgers also noted that integrity in his summary of the game itself: “I thought the integrity of the team – how they played and how they conducted themselves in the game was absolutely fantastic.

“From the start of the game, we were really attack-minded. We had to go through moments of pressure and that’s when you have to dig in. We did that very, very well and came through that to look like we could win the game. I was so, so pleased. It’s the hardest place to go as a Celtic player, especially with no supporters.”

Celtic now relishing home derby

Having come through last week’s game without losing ground in the title race, Celtic now have the chance to beat Rangers and take a big step towards silverware on home ground after the split.

The Bhoys have already beaten Philippe Clement’s outfit at Celtic Park this season and will fancy their chances when they come calling again.

Until that derby showdown, Celtic must pick up maximum points and ensure they have their title fate in their own hands.
