‘I actually loved him’: Heung-Min Son says he was a huge fan of £40m player before Tottenham even signed him

Tottenham made some fantastic signings over the summer.

Guglielmo Vicario and Micky Van de Ven have been transformative additions to the backline, but perhaps the jewel in the crown at Spurs in terms of summer signings is James Maddison.

Indeed, the England international has been fantastic since signing for Spurs, and speaking to TNT Sports, Heung-Min Son has been singing his praises.

Heung-Min Son praises James Maddison

The Tottenham captain spoke about his teammate.

Son says that not only is Maddison fantastic to play with, claiming they have a special connection, he also says that he was a huge fan of Maddison before he even signed for Tottenham.

“We can talk about James Maddison. He is a fantastic boy. He’s still a young guy. Not in his prime. He’s working really hard and we have a very special connection. Before he joined Spurs I loved him I actually loved him. He was a similar player to Christian Eriksen I would say, I would always follow him because I like this kind of player who makes a game with his quality, and for me he is very special. I want to make him a better player as much as I can, try to make him a better player as much as I can and he’s still not in his prime, don’t forget that,” Son said.

James Maddison has been incredible for years

It’s not surprising to hear that Son was a big fan of Maddison before he came to Spurs.

This season may well have been Maddison’s best yet, but we mustn’t forget just how brilliant he was at Leicester City.

Maddison helped the Foxes to the brink of Champions League qualification on two occasions, while he also won an FA Cup at the King Power Stadium.

This season has felt like a bit of a breakout campaign for the £40m man, but he’s been playing to an incredibly high standard for a very long time now.
