Andy Robertson says striker Liverpool signed for £20m was even better than Alan Shearer

Some of the best strikers in Premier League history have played for Liverpool.

From Luis Suarez to Michael Owen to Robbie Fowler, the Reds have had some dynamite strikers over the years.

Speaking to Goal on TikTok, Andy Robertson has been ranking some of the best centre-forwards in Premier League history, and he made quite an interesting claim about one former Liverpool striker and Alan Shearer.

Liverpool had a striker who was better than Alan Shearer

Speaking to Goal, Robertson was tasked with ranking some of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen.

Interestingly, during this TikTok challenge, Robertson put Fernando Torres ahead of Alan Shearer.

Of course, Torres didn’t score anywhere near as many goals as Shearer, but Robertson still ranked him higher than the Newcastle legend.

Fernando Torres vs Alan Shearer

In terms of Premier League legacy, this is a very one-sided debate.

Shearer is, of course, the better Premier League player than Torres. His goal record speaks for itself and he’s won numerous Golden Boot awards.

However, in terms of an overall legacy, this one may be closer than some would like to admit.

Torres is a World Cup winner and a two-time European Championship winner with Spain, while he also has a Champions League to his name from his time at Chelsea.

Shearer, on the other hand, famously struggled to get his hands on much silverware during his career.

In terms of which player is more likely to go down in the history books, Torres may well have a slight edge over Shearer due to the role he played in that famous Spain team as well as his incredible peak as a Liverpool player.

Regardless of who’s better. The signing of Torres for £20m was one of Liverpool’s best moves of the Premier League era.
